Seth Ressl, Greek Life and university events associate director, said although Nichols’ appearance has been confirmed according to the contract, the university will not be able to advertise until after his Feb. 9 concert at Cowboys Dancehall.

Student Congress president Zac Sanders, a political science senior, said Nichols’ addition will be good for the festival.

“He has a more traditional sound, and we’re in Texas,” Sanders said.

Collins Watson, Student Congress vice president and biomedical engineering graduate student, said the Special Events committee didn’t want the event to be specifically a country music concert.

“We will have another music act, and there is talk of having local bands play earlier that day,” he said. “We may also have hot air balloon rides and bungie jumping as part of the festival.”
